Projects created in the ArCADia system are saved in dwg files. But what does the program really save in this format?
If the project includes a building and its installations or an external network project, it will be saved in a dwg file, but if we open this file in any CAD program which native format is dwg, the project will be loaded only as 2D drawings. The 3D system of ArCADia can only read the system from the dwg file.
If you want to send the project to another program working in the BIM system, you can export it using IFC format (ArCADia-IFC RVT module). All information about the geometry of each element as well as information contained in the properties of these objects are saved. Much more information is transferred, but in other programs they are displayed only, their modifications are blocked.
If we want to send the 3D model from the ArCADia-ARCHITECTURE module to other programs along with the surface settings, materials and light, in order to create a visualization there that cannot be distinguished from a photo, then we export the project in the obj format. You will be interested in this format if you want to print the project on a 3D printer.
Both IFC and OBJ are formats that will save all the elements you indicate. During IFC export, a window for selecting which objects should be exported is displayed. The OBJ file saves everything that is currently displayed in the 3D view window. If something has been excluded from the visibility, it will not be exported. When saving in a native program, you have no choice of saving objects. The program will save everything that is in the project. Everything, though maybe not entirely, as you would expect. First of all, it is about your own templates, textures, 2D and 3D objects, importing IFC and RVT files, which are saved but with information about where they are located in the computer.
What does it mean? If you work on our own template, you will only have access to it on your computer. If the file is transferred to another computer, the program, when calling the first (any) system command, will show information about the lack of a template, and the elements will be entered from now on with the default template settings. It is similar with your own 3D objects, which will appear as white cubes on another computer.
That is why you need to remember that after saving the project, if it will be transferred to another workstation, you should save the Project Package. The option is available from the Collaboration ribbon in the logical group Export.
After executing the command in the directory where the file is saved with the same name, a directory will be created with objects, templates, textures, imported IFC files or other elements that are not in the standard program library. This directory must be moved with the project. This is enough, a directory and a file in the same directory will allow you to transfer all your work to another workstation.
