ArCADia BIM: CREATING 2D OBJECTS

The ArCADia system library contains both 2D and 3D objects but you do not always need 3D elements, because you do not need some information from the technical drawing in the visualization, so we use 2D symbols. The library does not contain absolutely everything that we may need, so it is possible to create such an object - a 2D symbol, save it to the library and use it in subsequent drawings.

For example, we have two very similar symbols for fire documentation - hydrant symbols. They were drawn in two ways to show what elements of a CAD drawing can create ArCADia objects.

The symbol on the left side uses three line widths, on the right side we have two line widths, but also two line types (continuous and axis) and hatching (Solid pattern).

Drawing symbols is no different from drawing documentation. A file downloaded from the Internet, drawn by you or a part of a drawing can be used to save a 2D object. Remember, however, that the drawing you save as a 2D object should be drawn correctly from the start, that is, with the appropriate thicknesses and types of lines, and of course also the colours. You will only be able to change this later after the element has been exploded, so you'd better do it at the start. We do not suggest using the sketch, spline and ellipse options to create symbols.

So if you have a drawn symbol, you turn on the Object Explorer window (icon  from the Insert toolbar or from the ArCADia-System menu) and click on the 2D Objects tab.

Select the User Library folder and either right-click on it or on the  Add folder icon. You do not have to create a special catalogue, but if you do not sort the symbols right away, you will have them in one place while working, and among several or several hundred objects in the catalogue, it will be difficult for you to find anything. Therefore, we suggest saving your own objects in directories that will tell you everything about their content.

Note: do not change the names of objects and directories, if they had been used used, because the program, after reopening the file in which they were located, will not see them. It will look for the original location and original name.

After creating the directory, click on it in the list and again either select the option from the context menu available under the right mouse button, or click on the  Create icon.

Here again, Note: the object will be saved to the directory of the library that is selected, so if after defining a new directory, you do not click on it, the symbol will fall into the main directory, and it is not possible to move objects between directories. You will need to save it to the appropriate location again.

After selecting the Create 2D object option, a window will appear in which you enter the name of the symbol, and after confirming and closing the window, the program will ask you to indicate the elements that make up the symbol. You can indicate them by clicking successively on individual elements of the symbol or by marking them with an area, so that each line, circle, etc. element changes to selections, i.e. a dashed line. If this is the case, the selection should be confirmed by right clicking the mouse or by pressing the Enter key on the keyboard.

Do the same with other symbols.

In the case of the above symbols, we did not use text, but when creating your own 2D objects, you can add them to the symbol.
